A combination of the Walking with Buddha Itinerary plus Amritsar and Dharamshala. In Southern regions of Nepal, across Bihar and into the east of Uttar Pradesh are the lands where the Buddha was born, lived, walked, meditated, fasted, attained enlightenment, preached and ultimately attained Paranirvana. Our walking with Buddha tours are designed for you you to visit some or all of the relevent sites connected to the Buddhas life. In Amritsar you will visit Sri Harmandir Sahib, also know as the Golden Temple, the holiest shrine of the Sikh religion. In Dharamshala, Home of the Dalai Lama the visit includes Tibetan Medical and Astrology (Mentseekhang), Tibetan Government / Parliament in exile (Kashag), Namgyal Monastery Main Temple (Tsulakhang), Gyuto Monastery (Sidhbari), Norbulingka (Institute of Tibetan Culture), Tibetan Library and Archive and Tibetan Children’s Village. Added to all the sites of Delhi.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive Delhi
You will be met at the airport. After meeting and greeting he will escort you to hotels and will help you for check-in. Overnight in Hotel.

Day 2 – Delhi
Today, leave for sight-seeing tour, which includes Jama Masjid – the largest mosque of Emperor Shahjahan. Later proceed to Red Fort, Raj Ghat- cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi, to India Gate – a 42 meter stone arch built in the memory of the Indian Soldiers who died in World War II, Drive past the President’s House & Parliament House, Humayun’s Tomb (a memorial of the Mughals, its design is inspired by the Taj Mahal), the Qutab Minar & Lotus Temple. Overnight in Hotel.

Day 3 – Delhi – Amritsar
Journey to Amritsar.

Day 4 – Amritsar – Dharamshala
Morning trip to Golden Temple. Afternoon travel Dharamshala (around 6 hours)

Day 5/6 Dharamshala
We spend the two days in Dharamshala (Mcleod Ganj) visiting the attractions in and around the home of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government in exile. We will visit Tibetan Medical and Astrology (Mentseekhang), Tibetan Government / Parliament in exile (Kashag), Namgyal Monastery Main Temple (Tsulakhang), Gyuto Monastery (Sidhbari), Norbulingka (Institute of Tibetan Culture), Tibetan Library and Archive and Tibetan Children’s Village

Day 7 – Dharamshala – Delhi
Depart Dharamshala (Mcleod Ganj) and return to Delhi. Overnight Delhi

Day 08 – Delhi – Varanasi – Sarnath
Transfer to Airport to connect flight to Varanasi. Afternoon excursion to Sarnath, the place where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon. Evening drive back to Varanasi and watch “aarti” at Ganga Ghats. Overnight in Hotel.

Day 9 – Varanasi
Early morning boat ride on River Ganges. After breakfast leave for full day sightseeing of the city. The places of interest are Bharat Mata Temple, Durga Temple, Tulsi Manas and the Banaras Hindu University. Overnight in Hotel.

Day 10 – Varanasi – Bodhgaya
Morning proceed for Bodh Gaya which is about 247 kms / 6-7 hrs drive. Bodhgaya is the place where Gautama Buddha attained unsurpassed, supreme Enlightenment. On arrival check into hotel and the rest of the day is free. Overnight in hotel.

Day 11 – Bodhgaya
Sightseeing of Maha Bodhi Temple and Bodhi Tree. Visit the Chinese Temple. In the afternoon visit Niranjana River and Sujata Temple. Also visit the school of the destitute. Overnight at Bodhgaya.

Day 12 – Bodhgaya – Rajgir – Nalanda – Patna
Early morning proceed to visit the historical towns of Rajgir & Nalanda (72 kms / 2 hrs). Rajgir was the lifetime of the Buddha and was the capital of the powerful Magadhan kingdom, ruled by the virtuous King Bimbisara. Nalanda was the most renowned university in ancient India. Established in the 5th century B.C. it remained a live center of learning till the 12th century A.D. Proceed to Patna after lunch (70 kms / 2 hrs). Overnight at Patna.

Day 13 – Patna – Vaishali – Kushinagar
Morning leave Patna for Kushinagar (260 kms / 7 hrs). En-route visit Vaishali – located 60 kms from Patna and holds special significance for Buddhist devotees. Kushinagar is the place where Buddha passed into Maha-Parinirvana.

Day 14 : Kushinagar: – Sravasti
Morning visit Kushinagar the various stupas and temples. Kushinagar is the Place where Buddha entered perfect tranquility – the state of Mahaparinirvana. Continue to Sravasti (270 kms – approx. 07 hrs drive). O/N Sravasti

Day 15 : Sravasti – Lumbini
Morning visit Sahet Mahet (Capital of ancient kingdom of Kosla, Jetawana Gardens Buddhist temples etc. Afternoon drive Lumbini, which is 190 kms approx. & 05 hrs drive. On arrival transfer to hotel. Evening visit Buddhist temples for prayer. Overnight at hotel. Lumbini is the place where enlighted Gautam Buddha was born.

Day 16 : Lumbini – Kathmandu
Morning visit Buddhist temple & stupas. Transfer to airport to connect flight for Kathmandu. On your arrival at Kathmandu, Tribhuvan Airport, you will be met by a representative of Temples of Nirvana and taken to your hotel in the Thamel district of Kathmandu.

Day 17 – Swayambhunath Temple – Kathmandu Durbar Square
This will be the first of your sightseeing days in Kathmandu. In the morning we will head for Swayambhunath (Monkey) Temple. Swayambhunath is a UNESCO, World Heritage and one of the must see sights of the Valley. We will walk the 365 steps up to the Stupa. There is much to see, not least the three large Buddha statues of Shakyamuni Buddha, Chenrezig and Guru Rinpoche. in the park to the rear. In the afternoon we visit the Durbar square in Kathmandu

Day 18 – Kopan Monastery – Bouddhanath Stupa – Pashupatinath Temple
Our second sightseeing day in Kathmandu starts at Kopan Monastery perched majestically overlooking the Kathmandu Valley. Kopan is a little haven of serenity amongst the chaos of the Valley. We will then head for Bouddhanath, the Tibetan area of Kathmandu where the mightily impressive Bouddhanath Stupa is situated. The Stupa is the second largest Stupa in the world. In the afternoon we will make our way to Pashupatinath Hindu Temple.

Day 19 – Depart Kathmandu
Depending on the time of your flight departure, you may have time for a lttle more sightseeing or shopping in Kathmandu. We will then take you to Tibhuvan airport 3 hours before the departure time of your flight home and see you to your departure terminal where we will say goodbye and hope very much, that you will have enjoyed your time with Temples of Nirvana.

 

Cost of the Trip
The exact price of your trip depends on the date of travel and the number of travellers. We will quote you a price based on two people traveling together and sharing a twin/double room at a standard hotel in Kathmandu and in India. If you require a single room or superior or deluxe accommodation please let us know.The cost we quote you will include Delhi – Varanasi flight and Lumbini – Kathmandu flight
